Biography

Nuttawat Pipithsuksunt began his piano studies at the age of 8 years old with Vimonwan Vongkrengkri. During his early years, the piano was not yet a central focus, and his musical development progressed at a notably unhurried pace. Practice was irregular, and learning new repertoire often required extended periods of time, with pieces taking years to reach completion. For several years, the piano remained a peripheral activity rather than a genuine artistic pursuit.

A turning point came in 2020, when global lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic provided him with unexpected time for reflection and self-discovery. Spending extended periods at home, Nuttawat began exploring classical music more deeply, listening extensively and engaging with the piano in a more personal and meaningful way. This period marked a profound transformation in his relationship with music, as curiosity evolved into genuine passion. It was during this time that he made the decisive commitment to pursue music professionally.

Following this realization, Nuttawat began intensive piano studies under the mentorship of Dr. Nopanand Chanorathaikul at the age of 15 years old, who played a crucial role in guiding his artistic development and instilling disciplined practice habits. His rapid progress and growing dedication led him to enroll at Mahidol University’s College of Music in 2022, where he studied with Dr. Duangruthai Pokaratsiri. Under her guidance, he solidified his technical foundation, refined his tone production, and developed a deeper understanding of musical structure and interpretation.

Seeking broader artistic exposure and an international musical environment, Nuttawat moved to Singapore in 2023 to continue his studies at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA). He is currently a student of Dr. Nicholas Ong, whose mentorship has been instrumental in shaping his interpretative depth, stylistic awareness, and artistic vision. Through this training, Nuttawat has expanded his repertoire across a wide range of musical periods, from Baroque to contemporary works, while continuing to refine his technical and expressive capabilities.

Nuttawat’s artistic growth has been reflected in his success at international competitions. In 2025, he was awarded 1st Prize at the 5th Rising Stars International Arts Festival & Competition, where he performed Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No. 2 (1st movement) with the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dr. Chaipruck Mekara. His performance was noted for its maturity, expressive depth, and commanding pianistic presence. In the same year, he also received 1st Prize at the NAFA 16th Lucien Wang Piano Competition, further establishing his profile within Singapore’s classical music community.

Earlier achievements include 3rd Prize at the 4th Rising Stars International Arts Festival & Competition 2023, performing Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 23, K. 488 with the Hanoi Chamber Orchestra under Dong Quang Vinh. He has also received prizes at the 5th Singapore International Classical Piano Competition and the 11th Hong Kong International Youth Performing Arts Festival, and earned three consecutive Gold Medals at the Bangkok International Performing Arts Competition from 2021 to 2023.

In addition, Nuttawat has been a finalist in major national competitions in Thailand, including the Kasetsart International Piano Competition 2023, the 10th Thailand Mozart International Piano Competition 2022, and the 7th Thailand Chopin International Piano Competition 2023. These experiences have contributed significantly to his artistic maturity, performance confidence, and stylistic versatility.

Committed to continual growth, Nuttawat has participated in masterclasses with distinguished pianists and pedagogues such as Antonio Pompa-Baldi, Vanessa Latarche, Paul Lewis, Ning An, Iswargia Sudarno, Sara Davis Buechner, Tony Yike Yang, Aaron Shorr, Laurens Patzlaff, San Jittakarn, and Tarin Supprakorn. These encounters have enriched his musical perspective and informed his interpretative approach.

Nuttawat’s repertoire spans a broad range of styles, encompassing the contrapuntal clarity of J.S. Bach, the classical elegance of Haydn and Mozart, the expressive and virtuosic language of Chopin, Schumann, and Rachmaninoff, as well as the rhythmic vitality and modern textures of Prokofiev, Ginastera, and other 20th-century composers. He is particularly drawn to works that require emotional depth, structural clarity, and technical endurance.

Beyond competitions and formal study, Nuttawat remains actively engaged in recital performances, concerto appearances, and collaborative projects. With a strong commitment to artistic integrity and continued development, he aspires to build a meaningful career as a concert pianist, sharing his musical voice with audiences in Asia and internationally. Through each performance, he seeks to communicate the expressive power of music and contribute thoughtfully to the evolving tradition of classical piano performance.
